Where are you going?

Dave Matthews Band did a song written by Gavin Harrison and Ricardo Byer called "Where are you going" back in 2002 which appeared on their Busted Stuff album.

The song basically goes like this...(click here to listen)

Where are you going, with your long face pulling down?
Don’t hide away, like an ocean
But you can’t see, but you can smell
And the sound of waves crash down

I am no Superman
I have no reasons for you
I am no hero, oh that’s for sure
But I do know one thing
Is where you are, is where I belong
I do know, where you go is where I wanna be

Where are you going, where do you go?
Are you looking for answers to questions under the stars?
Well, if along the way you are growing weary,
You can rest with me until a brighter day
And you're okay
I was a senior in high school when this song came out so naturally it stuck out to me. Where are you going, I would ask myself. What's next?

The other day I found myself asking the same thing. Have you asked yourself this recently? Where are you going?

I didn't necessarily ask myself in the sense of moving to a new house across town or a different city. I didn't ask myself in the sense of getting a new job or starting a new career path. I didn't even ask myself this in the sense of a grander calling or life journey.

It was much simpler then that. I believe I simply asked myself this because I feel that there's something inside of me that is saying "keep going, keep pushing on and get better".

I have been thinking and praying a lot about what the next 5, 10, 20, 30, 50 years of my life will look like. I know I'm not promised tomorrow, however I also know if you want something bad enough you have to work hard at it if you want it to really happen.

I'm not sure who said this but I find it to be true, "what comes easy won't last, what last won't come easy".

Esther Hicks said, "The image of where you are going has to be more dominant than the image of where you are."

Do you know where you want to go? Are you prepared to put the work in to get there? If so, then why haven't you started? Have you? If you already have, great job! Keep it up! Keep pushing on!

For me personally the more people I can share the good news of Christ with, the better. I'll go to the ends of the world to do that. In fact, that's what we're called as Christians to do. (Matthew 28:19-20)

Where are you going? Who is going with you? What are you going to do along the way? When will you get there? When will you start another journey?

Conon O'Brien said, "Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you're kind, amazing things will happen."

Keep pushing on and keep your head up! Pray and ask God to show you where you are and where you will go. He's got you where you are for a reason and know's your next steps. (Jeremiah 29:11)

Side Note:
Here's a great idea from the Dalai Lama - Once a year go someplace you've never been before.
